Kinshasa Conference on Anti-Corruption: President Tshisekedi Leads Mobilisation of African Youth

On Monday, to mark the International Day of the Fight Against Corruption, President Félix Tshisekedi opened an international conference in Kinshasa. The theme of the conference was: “Mobilising African Youth in the Fight Against Corruption for a Better Tomorrow.” The event was organised by the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF).

President Tshisekedi’s Commitment to Anti-Corruption

In his speech, the Inspector General Head of Service of the IGF, Jules Alingete, commended President Tshisekedi’s efforts to reinvigorate national structures in the fight against corruption. He also took the opportunity to emphasise the “a priori control” exercised by his institution within public services.

Corruption

President Tshisekedi reaffirmed that the fight against corruption is a fundamental aspect of his governance. “Since assuming the role of Head of State, I have been committed to enhancing the reputation of all institutions and bodies engaged in the fight against corruption in our country. “I have therefore provided the Court of Auditors with renewed political, legal and logistical support, thereby guaranteeing rigorous control of public finances,” he stated.

The Role of Youth in Anti-Corruption Efforts

In his opening remarks, President Tshisekedi emphasized that the mobilization of youth is not merely a catchphrase, but a crucial aspect of the conference’s theme. “Like the late Floribert Bwana Chui, a martyr at 26 years of unblemished honesty and absolute probity, our youth is the foundation of the fight against corruption.”

Corruption

He added, “They are the victims, but they must and can become the solution.” It is up to her to make the decision that is right for her, that is to say, the decision to choose integrity and to fight for what is right. Young people possess the energy, moral fortitude, sense of the common good, and justice required to transform our practices. “They represent an invaluable resource of informed and committed individuals, capable of challenging malpractice, resisting compromise and promoting positive standards of practice.”

International Participation and Future Leadership

The conference welcomed the participation of 13 African member countries of the Forum of General Inspectorates of Finance and Similar Institutions (FIGE). The FIGE is currently chaired by Angola and will be presided over by the DRC for the 2026 to 2028 financial year.

Corruption

This conference represents a significant step forward in mobilising African youth and strengthening international cooperation in the fight against corruption, paving the way for a brighter future.
